Aims & Objectives

Objectives

1. Speciality trainees should have a routine opportunity to preference their subsequent hospitals.

Although their preferences may not be able to be accommodated, it will put an end to random allocations (after training needs are taken into account).

2. TPDs should have adequate tools to allocate trainees based on their preferences and training needs.

We are trialling an algorithmic software platform from dbRotas for easier preference collection and presentation, providing a versatile tool for TPDs to adapt to suit their needs when allocating trainees and manage trainee data.

Our Aims

1. Understand
Learn the current practice across different specialities in UK deaneries with two 60-second Surveys – click here to access for Speciality Trainees and here to access the Survey for TPDs.

2. Study
Data on trainee commuting times, distance travelled and trainee satisfaction with commute is currently being collected over three rounds of hospital allocations of Stage 1 anaesthetic trainees in West Yorkshire, early results show positive findings for all three outcomes when trainees are given a platform to routinely preference.

3. Empower
Set the standard that trainees deserve to have their voices heard and ranking hospitals should be the norm, where possible.

4. Encourage
Give TPDs the positivity and time to do their best for speciality trainees, they deserve more support to make the right decisions for their trainee cohort.

5. Develop
Design and distribute software solutions to meet the RTC-I objectives.

The Future
As each deanery has specific needs and quirks, there is no quick fix. Therefore, we will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to gather as much data as possible and use this information to direct investments to create a versatile solution that works.
